I held a hummingbird today. An amazing, beautiful, little, scared friend who had flown inside. She had worn for the occasion her amazing colors of iridescent blues, greens, reds and grey. She might have been there for sometime, when we came upon her. Afraid and riled up she came from her hover into my hand. With a few chirps she let me gently but securely hold her. Taking her outside I opened my hands to reveal the blue sky, pointed her toward the beach and yet she remained for just another moment, long enough to enjoy some more love from my girls. Then with a few parting chirps of thanks she flew off, beautiful, free and fast.
