PLEASURE POINT, Calif. - Following the shark attack Saturday near Capitola Beach, hundreds of surfers were still trying to catch some waves.

Solomon Doherty is an 11-year-old avid surfer and spends much of his free time at Capitola Beach.

“Even on school days, I come out here once a day and on the weekends, I come out here at least twice a day.”

Doherty was in the water at 5:00 this morning to catch the southern swell that came in today. Like any other morning, he checked out what the day was going to be like, but this morning was a little different.

While he did not actually witness the shark attack, he saw the kayak being pull under. But he says it won’t change anything for him.

“That’s where they live. You cant stop them from being there.”

Ray Conti and his son Jack also surf in Capitola. Jack started surfing a year ago with his dad and he says a shark won’t stop their plans.

“As surfers, we are die hard. We will surf no matter what.”

Conti says that there is not much that will stop a surfer if there are waves like today.

“Its in our blood. If there are waves, we gotta go.”
